Applications for this year’s Greenstone Farm Credit Services beef heifer youth award are due by April 20. A beef heifer will be awarded to a local young person during the 2023 Newaygo County Agricultural Fair on Saturday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. It will be the eighth annual award from Greenstone. Application information is listed below or may also be picked up at the fair office between 5:30 and 7 p.m. on Mondays. Applicants of at least 13 years of age must be nominated by an adult leader and must have at least three years of experience showing in the Newaygo County Fair’s beef division. Applications must be received by 5:00 pm April 20th to be eligible, they can be placed in the drop box at the Newaygo County Agricultural Fair office, mailed to PO Box 14, Fremont, MI 49412, or emailed to info@newaygocountyfair.org.
Application Instructions
- The club leaders must nominate the youth by calling the fair office at 231-924-4450 by April 15th. Youth must be 13 years old and have shown beef for at least 3 years. (Leaders may nominate more than 1 outstanding youth from their club.)
- The youth must write a 200 word (min.) essay about themself, their beef project, and why they would like to receive this award. Essay should include: name, address, phone #, e-mail address, age, school activities, church activities, and any other extracurricular activities. Also include any jobs the youth have done on the farm, at the fair (include number of volunteer hours), or in the community. We would also like to know what the youth plans to do after high school. The essay needs to be received by the fair office by 5:00 pm April 20th. Please deliver to the fair office at 815 S. - The applicant will have an interview that will be set up in the weeks after the deadline. A committee member will call and give you the date, place, and time, so be sure to include your address and phone number with the essay.
