Beef Calf Award

The goal of this partnership with Greenstone Farm Credit Services is to help a local youth to be able to raise, train, and show at the Newaygo County Agricultural Fair. Having a beef project is full of responsibility for the youth. Raising a beef animal presents many opportunities to learn responsibility, self-confidence, and commitment. If you are interested in starting a learning experience with a beef project, you may contact Sara Kempf at 231-769-9576 by May 1st if you are interested in going out for the Beef Calf Award.
Youth must be 12 years old and have shown beef for at least 2 years. (Leaders may nominate more than 1 outstanding youth from their club.)
The youth must write a 200 word (min.) essay about themself, their beef project, and why they would like to receive this award. Essay should include but is not limited to:
* Name
* Age
* Address
* Phone #
* Two to three references
* School activities
* Any other extracurricular activities
* Any jobs that you have done on the farm, at the fair, or in the community.
* Any aspirations you have for the future

The applicant will have an interview that will be set up in the weeks after the deadline. Beef breeding superintendent Sara Kempf will call and give you the date, place, and time.
